Mgmt. : Words of Wisdom : #1
I have always wanted to capture the words of wisdom that my boss showers upon me, whenever am facing a problem and approach him with it. Lot many of these pearls were lost, to be buried in my mind and applied while facing a particular problem. Henceforth, am going to capture these here in my blog (for my own reference and for the benefit of my readers).
Problem #1.
Your peers / superiors bypass you (intentionally / un-intentionally) to reach your subordinates and forget to keep you in loop.
Solution #2.

Your peers / superiors bypass you (intentionally / un-intentionally) to reach your subordinates and forget to keep you in loop.
Solution #2.
- Make sure the sub-ordinate informs you [officially] of such communication / requests before he processes / acts upon it. (you have to earn this privilege within your team, though)
- Have him/her to reply back to you, copying the original requestors in the cc, as to what he is supposed to do & asking for your guidance.
- This shows your peers / superiors, that they have not done the right thing by bypassing you to your sub-ordinate
- This shows your team depends upon you for guidance
- Reminds everybody involved about the existance of the process & etiquitties everybody should adhere to
- Avoids any undercurrents and puts the requestors off balance, with no other way to respond but communicate to you directly

Bangalore burns!
But the aftermath, the mindless rage and violence raises many disturbing questions!
The IT City with 6 Mil. ppl., came to a standstill for the next two days. UnImaginable.
Crores of loss.
And the inability of the police force to control the mob was so edivent and shocking on the live broadcast.
In fact, the police was running for their dear lives out of a bus being stoned by the mob.
To watch the vehicles burn and the cheering mob surrounding the burning vehicle was literally a bunch of monkeys around a bonfire - mindless, thoughtless, sadistic, moraleless, braindead, illiterate.
As a vehicle owner myself, i could just imagine the plight of the poor owner.
And my blood boils!
The impact is not very healthy - money apart, the stress, fears, hate, anger, and the rage of emotions triggered by such displays!
None of the so called "fans", who were on the rampage showed any trace of the thespian's loss / sadness but rather cheering and jumping monkeylike running around throwing stones and wrecking havoc.
What "fans" would not oblige to the pleadings of Dr. RajKumars' sons / wife, to let them do the last rites in peace?
How safe are "we" - "the comman man", the tax payer, the so called mass, in this democratic country?
How will there ever be any sanity, with this kind of mass?
What can be done to bring in the self awareness among such mob on rampage?
Are we as people so mallable, that anybody can provocate such sporadic violence???!!!
Democracy by definition is
- of the people,
- by the people and
- for the people.
Does this apply for anything on the name of democracy?
Violence included???!!!
Bangalore? Silicon Valley? BOOOOOO!!! Where ARE we?

Reading the "Eldest", sequel to the "Eragon", by Christopher Paolini.
I had finished reading Eragon during feb and had been wanting to read the sequel since then.
Finally, last sunday i managed to get myself a cheap copy of the "Eldest", from a roadside bookseller after a fine bargain.
I Somehow love the magical, adventure filled realms created by the skilled words and imagination of these writers. JRR Tolkiens' words are the most captivating when it comes this kind of writing. No words to express the excitement of living in that imaginary realm.

Whew! Doesn't it feel good??!!

I fixed this wierd problem on my thinkpad today. (atlast)
my sound card stopped working suddenly! (Soundmax pro, which is part of the T43) But the funny thing is WinXP - Device Manager reports all is fine.
But the "sounds and audio devices" has all the tabs & options disabled. To think of touching the drivers / reinstallation is like having a heart attack, since my T43 is loaded with goodies collected over a period of time and it will take me a good full week to restore my system to normal after a reinstall.
after breaking the heads and googling over, finally found the solution!
and a :) pretty simple / stupid one, as such!
A week earlier, i had disabled the "Windows Audio" service (which had caused me all this trouble). I just restarted the service and bang, all's normal again. My sound card is working like a song!
a lesson learnt!

Aaaahhhhhh!!! Nostalgia!
Its a solid 4 months since i had worked in delphi.
as a consolation, installed d7 back into my machine ...
and oh boy!!! what a feel it is to see the delphi ide.
brings back all those nostalgic memories of the good ol' days.
SIGH!!!
yet, it leaves me with a heavy heart to see what delphi
has become off late.

Reiki

Sara joined in today. poor fellow, putting myself in his shoes, i can sense his despair on the first day. am leaving this place, he's getting back to hands on coding after awhile and this whole new enviroment is all alien for him, coming from more action packed environs. i wish but can't help him in any ways other than being there for him when he needs me and to provide a smooth beginning and paving ways for his betterment!!!
How i wish to have had him in my new team! Well, aren't things after all been driven by murphy's laws??!!
Oh coming to Reiki, the thoughts of it were triggered as i was thinking about ravi and our conversation earlier last weekend. Somehow, am getting fascinated and interested to know more of Reiki and to check out what it has to offer!
So i went on to check out reiki on google, and this is what i hit upon! Bold and Big, in the first prominent search result on reiki. read on...

Celebrations and a loooonnnnnggggggg chat

Pinxx, Manipal Center, Bangalore
All of Tarka, sriram, jayashree, ravi and me!
Nice(?) dinner with the small group, celebrating the first year of
of Tarka and the release of SimplEX, maiden product offering from
Tarka.
Two Surprises at the venue:
a. Pinxx turned out to be an continental joint
b. The Presence of a blr magician, to entertain us with a bunch of his magic puzzles
Sriram(?), Ravi(?), Me and Murthy, solved one puzzle each, after a mug of beer!
Funny thing, our brains were so rusted, i had to take out a paper and draw out the solution,
before solving the puzzle. (forming a T of 4 broken pieces)
Ended up with a western/continental platter of dishes for dinner (Whew, man, isn't it
stupid to taste westernized indian food, paying a western bill, sitting right in heart of
india???) As usual, it can happen ONLY in india.
We had a nice time later that evening, me and sriram, stayed back and what started
as an usual discussion went on and on, across various topics well over midnight.
it was almost 1am, by the time we said our byes.
A Good small get together, which proved to energise me for the next few days. :)

A Different Time, A Different Place
Its almost another month, since i've updated my blog.
and this new one month has taken me to new places, with new happenings and new situations!!!
This trip to london came up quick and after a few nail biting moments, i got my visa stamped, on
one single page left out in my passport (getting an additional book would have taken atleast another 10/15 days
which would've meant the cancellation of this trip!), and with the invite letter arriving just after a weeks' delay,
(by then, the i'd almost given up the prospects of making this trip at all!!!)
And man, i get the visa, a day earlier than expected - and with a quick re-scheduling of the tickets,
was lucky enough to get them confirmed for the next day - and i did leave the next morning - dirty, quick and
fast!
and what a start it was!!!
I Got Sick..., just the night before - undigestion and throwing up... terrible feeling!!!
Pushed thru the trip, in the morning, with mum and dad terribly worried!
by Gods grace, thankfully, things started improving... over the days.
Thanks to all the medicines mum had packed up, and the first two days of starved stomach, with
a lot of prayers!
Man, being sick could have such unpleasent effects! whew!
both physically and more mentally!
But again, it was great time to be in london again, after almost an year and a half.

The Weekend
it was after quite a while, that i've done this...
two movies out in the theatres - in consecutive days!!!
Our (me, venu, anand and kamal ) target was to watch 'swades'.
but after our futile efforts to get the tickets at cauvery, over the counter and
shunning to pay double for the price, in black... we ended up hopping theaters
to sangeetha and to rex. And it being a saturday and it was already 5 when we left
cauvery, we just couldn't manage to get the tickets!
What the heck, i decided that since we were out for a movie, we will get to watch one.
what if its just not 'swades'?!!!
So, cuz of me putting my foot down, we ended up going for 'ocean's twelve'!!!
Oh man. what a turn off!!! Pathetic - it was such an expensive blunder, the director hoping it to be an
intelligent plot!!! ewww. waste of time and money!
just barely escaped getting beaten up from my friends, for choosing that one!
Well, what the heck - since we had actually wanted to watch 'Swades' - we decided
we'd do the same on sunday!!!
and whew, i just got a bit more than normally absorbed by that movie.
hats off to asuthosh gowarikar - a very professional movie, great screenplay,
good casting if not to match that of lagaan and last but not least - Gayatri Joshi :D
But, man, inspite of the beautiful - gorgeous gayatri joshi - the movie had left a profound impact ...
of what we (me first) have done, doing and will do for our country...
not to say that we get to see enough of the heart wrenching scenes - and to hear the happenings -
of suppression, poverty and much more!!!
for some unknown reason, i had just put myself in the shoes of mohan (SRK) in the movie, asking myself
what have i been and what have i done ... apart from my thoughts and good will to the betterment of
my country!!!??
Nope, this wasn't the kinda josh after a patriotic movie... but more of a knife of guilt slicing through.
this was kinda fuelled with my and anand's earlier discussions on the same line...
i want to make a difference, to try and to act, in whatever possible small ways, and i'd be glad the
day i can watch the changes in this country!!!

Today was kamal's birthday... and its almost a month up since his marriage...
had been to his home, for a nice memorable evening.
A Hearty Dinner, with a prelude - cake cutting... turned
interesting with a naughty bunch of candles which kept springing back to life
every time he blew 'em off and this continued for awhile until he won - finally
blowing off the candles!
And unknown of the next surprise awaiting - piece of cake on his face,
from his wife.!!!
We'd been watching his marriage album and the CD,
and it was a nice evg, with loads of laughter and life.
and not to forget, is the care and affection we folks stand
to receive from his mom and dad - mom, especially!
Its a great feeling and there are but far and few left out there, in this date...
like 'em!
in my life - i've been gifted in more than one ways - inspite of the hardships, which
includes the care and affection from two warm hearted women,
my aunt and kamal's mother! :)
