Bangalore? Silicon Valley? BOOOOOO!!! Where ARE we?

13th Apr 2006
Bangalore burns!

  • 8 people killed
  • Over 250 Injured
  • An estimated $160 Million loss
  • Vehicles set to fire
  • Mob on crazy, mindless rampage
Rajkumar's demise comes as a loss, true!
But the aftermath, the mindless rage and violence raises many disturbing questions!
The IT City with 6 Mil. ppl., came to a standstill for the next two days. UnImaginable.
Crores of loss.
And the inability of the police force to control the mob was so edivent and shocking on the live broadcast.
In fact, the police was running for their dear lives out of a bus being stoned by the mob.

To watch the vehicles burn and the cheering mob surrounding the burning vehicle was literally a bunch of monkeys around a bonfire - mindless, thoughtless, sadistic, moraleless, braindead, illiterate.
As a vehicle owner myself, i could just imagine the plight of the poor owner.
And my blood boils!
The impact is not very healthy - money apart, the stress, fears, hate, anger, and the rage of emotions triggered by such displays!

None of the so called "fans", who were on the rampage showed any trace of the thespian's loss / sadness but rather cheering and jumping monkeylike running around throwing stones and wrecking havoc.

What "fans" would not oblige to the pleadings of Dr. RajKumars' sons / wife, to let them do the last rites in peace?

How safe are "we" - "the comman man", the tax payer, the so called mass, in this democratic country?
How will there ever be any sanity, with this kind of mass?
What can be done to bring in the self awareness among such mob on rampage?

Are we as people so mallable, that anybody can provocate such sporadic violence???!!!

Democracy by definition is
   - of the people,
   - by the people and
   - for the people.

Does this apply for anything on the name of democracy?
Violence included???!!!

-- Rajkumar was a man of the crowds. He was a part of the bigger family. In that regard, his closest family were fans and then came personal kins. Rites and other things are our conveniences and must not be read as a loss.

As safe as, as harmful as our neighbor is ;-). And to your neighbor you are the neighbor. So he is as safe as harmful as you are.

How will there ever be any sanity, with this kind of mass?
There cannot be unless ofcourse everyone realizes its effects. (As you mentioned - self awareness).

What can be done to bring in the self awareness among such mob on rampage?
Generally speaking, when there is a common purpose to acheive - then it is easier (if the common purpose by itself is not destructive i.e). That is why Gandhi successfully preached non-violence and it seeped in. When there is a soceity with different purposes, diversified purposes mind you, then it is not possible (I am no pessimist - but take up any sociology book and recheck my words). The soceity gets what it deserves at the end of it.

Are we as people so mallable, that anybody can provocate such sporadic violence???!!!
I read that as "malleable" - well yes they are, especially when there is power and money are involved or even any one is involved. Then anyone with a weak will can be a puppet to it.

- for the people.

Democracy is exercising 'socialism' by people themselves and communism is the state enforcing it. Mob mentalities have no respect to either when fuelled with the powerful couple - power and money.

:: They are not our conveniences but are our beliefs. To be deprived of them by force, is not a gain nor the price to be paid for fame.

As safe as, as harmful as our neighbor is ;-)

:: Sigh! what are the odds as of date, that these other "powerful" neighbours who happen to be ruling this country as the peoples' chosen representative (and on whom we are dependent for the safe being of "the common man") aren't harmful by their thoughts and action?
Sure enough, they ensure no harm passes by to themselves, their kith & kin. But the rest?!!!

The soceity gets what it deserves at the end of it.
Aye, i suppose so. history proves it! Unless there is a dire need for the society to be propelled towards a change.

Mob mentalities have no respect to either when fuelled with the powerful couple - power and money.
Mmmm., so, should the question be resigned, as a submission to the very nature of the mob mentality, whatever be the structure of the governance employed?

Lets say this "Mob Mentality" can be dealt with Fear, and Love as two trump cards.
Of which, Love will be laughed at and any influence it exudes on the people are momentary.
On the other hand - Fear (which is always a result of pain) makes the "Mob" to think twice on exhibiting the same again, if they had been punished earlier.

Fear factor, has to prevail - not for all, not for all possible situations, but for culling such "Mob Mentality".

The solution would be to inflict fear in such "Mobs" and the "Mob Creators" and to make them renounce it for a change. To Create Self Awareness by means of the Fear factor!!

When the ground is set, tilled and worked upon, then it can be sowed with the seeds of love.
